When your kids come home from school, be prepared for them. Get them to empty their bags and lunches and show you any work that needs to be done.

Have a healthy snack on the ready and a glass of water and find some comfortable seating to do homework. Consider doing homework at the library some days where the environment is ripe for learning.

Also, even though your children need to read themselves, make sure you share reading with them as well. Whether it be reading a newspaper article or a comic strip to reading chapter books together or even looking at an e-book or listening to an audio book.
